
Carthage ISD celebrates Black History Month by recognizing Mr. Anthony Luther "A.L." Turner. In 1922, Mr. Turner began what was to be a lengthy career as a teacher and principal of the Carthage Colored Elementary and High School. During his tenure in Carthage, Mr. Turner established himself as one of the greatest educators in the State of Texas.

Carthage ISD celebrates Black History Month by recognizing Dr. Mildred Faye Jefferson. Dr. Jefferson was raised in Carthage and was the first African-American woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School. She was a founding leader of the pro-life movement with a powerful message of respect for all human beings from creation until death. A bust and plaque has been erected in Dr. Jeffersonās honor on the Carthage square.


CISD has received accreditation standing from TEA.
