Carthage ISD Students and Educators Receive VFW Awards

Students and teachers from Carthage ISD were recognized by Panola County Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5620 for outstanding achievement in the post’s annual awards program.

Shelbi Pittman of Carthage Elementary School was recognized as the outstanding elementary school teacher and Jolene Davis of Carthage High School was recognized as outstanding high school teacher of the year. Both winners received certificates and cash awards for their selection.

Three Carthage High School students also received awards in the Voice of Democracy essay contest. Ashley Pinkston was named first-place winner, Ashley McLawhorn was selected for third place and Brenden Selby earned honorable mention. Pinkston and McLawhorn received certificates and cash prizes, and Selby received a certificate of achievement.

Cash awards were made possible this year by donations to the post scholarship fund by the following businesses and individuals: First State Bank and Trust Co., NAPA Auto Parts, Corey Bankhead Law Offices and Drew Nixon, CPA.
