Carthage ISD B Rated District

Carthage ISD maintained a B rating from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in their 2022 accountability ratings, released last week. The overall performance score for the district improved from an 86 in 2019 to an 89 in 2022, with score improvements in all three of the main categories: student achievement, school progress, and closing the gaps.

In addition, every Carthage ISD campus showed significant improvement in overall scores, with Carthage Junior High and Carthage High School both increasing the number of distinction designations earned.

Carthage Junior High earned three distinction designations in ELA/Reading, Comparative Academic Growth, and Postsecondary Readiness. Carthage High School earned six distinction designations in ELA/Reading, Mathematics, Science, Comparative Academic Growth, Postsecondary Readiness, and Comparative Closing the Gaps.

“The hard work by the students, staff and administrators has paid off in this overall score increase, we are so proud of the commitment and dedication shown by everyone in Carthage ISD,” said Superintendent Jarrod Bitter. “While we’ve got our goal set on being an A rated district next year, it’s important to take time to celebrate the accomplishments of our hard-working team, especially considering the challenges faced over the last couple of years.”

Texas schools are rated on an A-F scale, similar to the common letter grading system for students. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TEA has not released accountability ratings since 2019, and this year, schools that received a rating below a C were considered Not Rated, in alignment with Senate Bill 1365, passed in 2021. Districts and campuses with scores of 90-100 received an A, 80-89 received a B, and 70-79 received a C.
