East Texas native brings more than a decade of music education, fine arts leadership and program-building experience to the Battlin’ Bulldog Band.
Carthage ISD is proud to welcome Mr. Danny Diosdado as the district’s new Director of Bands and Director of the Carthage High School Battlin’ Bulldog Band.
An East Texas native and 2006 graduate of Henderson High School, Mr. Diosdado grew up in the region’s military marching band tradition. That experience helped shape both his career in music education and his belief that a strong band program can have an impact on students that reaches far beyond the performance field or concert stage.
“There is an incredible amount of pride in Carthage, and I felt that almost immediately,” Diosdado said. “After spending my first week with our students and experiencing my first Friday night with the Battlin’ Bulldog Band, I’m even more excited about what is ahead of us.”
A Career Built on Growth and Student Success
Mr. Diosdado brings more than a decade of experience in music education and fine arts leadership to Carthage ISD. He spent much of his career in Cleveland ISD, serving in a variety of roles that included Head Middle School Band Director, High School Associate Director and Marching Director, Head High School Band Director, Performing Arts Department Head and Fine Arts Coordinator.
As his leadership responsibilities grew, so did his impact across the district. Mr. Diosdado eventually helped oversee the development and growth of fine arts programs beyond band while continuing to work directly with students and directors.
During his tenure in Cleveland, the Royal Braves Band experienced significant growth and competitive success. The high school program grew to more than 250 students and supported four concert ensembles, percussion class and jazz band. Earlier in his career, Mr. Diosdado helped grow the Cleveland Middle School band program from approximately 96 students to more than 300.
His ensembles earned Superior ratings in UIL marching competition and Sweepstakes awards in Concert and Sight-Reading. Under his leadership, the Royal Braves Band earned the Bronze Medal at the 2021 UIL State Military Class Marching Band Contest and returned to the State Military contest as a finalist in 2023.
Mr. Diosdado’s students have also achieved success individually through the TMEA and ATSSB All-State processes. In 2014, one of his students earned 1st Chair Tuba in the ATSSB All-State Band.
More recently, Cleveland students earned opportunities to perform on the national stage. In 2024, the Royal Braves Clarinet Quartet and Saxophone Quartet performed at the Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis, and during the 2024-25 school year, two Cleveland High School students were selected for Music for All’s Honor Band of America.
Developing Musicians and Building Leaders
For Danny Diosdado, the success of a band program cannot be measured only through ratings, awards or trophies.
“I believe the value of a successful band program extends far beyond performances, ratings and trophies,” he said. “Music education gives us an opportunity to challenge students to become better musicians while also developing discipline, perseverance, responsibility, teamwork and leadership.”
That philosophy aligns with his vision for the future of the Battlin’ Bulldog Band.
“I want our band program to be an important part of our school and community and, most importantly, to provide our students with experiences, relationships and memories they will carry with them long after their final performance.”
In addition to his work as an educator and administrator, Mr. Diosdado has more than a decade of experience as a marching band drill designer. His professional background includes military-style marching, concert band instruction, private lesson teaching, music arranging, drill design and program development.
He has also served as a clinician for regional ensembles and has presented at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. His clinician experience includes serving as the ATSSB Middle School clinician for Region 21 in 2022 and Region 8 in 2023.
An East Texas Homecoming
After graduating from Henderson High School, Mr. Diosdado began his collegiate studies at Tyler Junior College, where he performed as a member of the Apache Band and earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies. He later attended Lamar University in Beaumont, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
Returning to East Texas also brings Danny Diosdado and his family closer to home.
He and his wife, Alicia, have three children: Ian, a sixth grader; Andrew, a second grader; and Elena, a Pre-K student who proudly holds the family title of “Pre-K Princess.” Their family also includes Daisy, an Australian Shepherd, and Estella, their cat.
“Having grown up in Henderson, returning to East Texas and having the opportunity to serve a community close to home makes coming to Carthage especially meaningful to me,” Diosdado said.
As he begins this new chapter, Mr. Diosdado said he has already been encouraged by the commitment he sees from Carthage students, families, staff and community members.
“Our students want to be successful, our community wants to see them succeed, and there are people throughout the district who genuinely care about this program,” he said. “I’m excited to challenge our students, celebrate their successes, and work together to give them experiences and memories they will carry long after they leave Carthage.”
