Welcome, Kit Kyle Martin

Carthage ISD is proud to announce Kit Kyle Martin as the new head girls’ basketball coach at Carthage High School. A 1988 CHS graduate, 2021 Carthage High School Athletic Hall of Honor inductee, and a member of the 2023 Carthage ISD Education Foundation Distinguished Alumni class, Martin returns home with one of the most decorated coaching resumes in Texas high school basketball.

With more than 783 career wins over nearly three decades, Martin has built a legacy rooted in excellence, integrity and student development. Her teams have claimed 19 district championships, advanced to nine regional tournaments, and reached the UIL State Final Four five times. In 2019, she was named WBCA National High School Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Martin’s coaching career includes standout leadership at Timberview, Barbers Hill and Marcus High Schools. At Timberview High School in Mansfield, she compiled a 373-70 record and developed one of the state’s premier girls’ basketball programs. Known for her leadership both on and off the court, she has helped dozens of student-athletes earn college scholarships while also fostering academic and personal growth.

“This is a proud day for Carthage,” said Athletic Director Scott Surratt. “We’re bringing home one of our own who wore the red and white and knows what it means to be a Bulldog. Coach Martin is a proven winner and a strong leader of young people. We’re proud to welcome her back home to lead our girls’ basketball program.”

Martin holds a master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, where she was named Outstanding Graduate of the College of Applied Arts and Sciences, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. Her early coaching career began at the collegiate level as an assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Arkansas.

“After an incredible journey in this game I love, I’m coming home!” Martin said. “I’m honored to accept the head girls’ basketball position at Carthage High School—where it all began for me. I’m grateful for the steps that brought me back to Bulldog Country. See you at the gym!”

Coach Martin shared that she is eager to meet her players, connect with the coaching staff, and help shape a strong and exciting future for the Lady Dawg basketball program.
