Carthage Primary students excited about Education Foundation Grants being awarded

This morning, the Carthage ISD Education Foundation’s annual Grant Patrol bus made the rounds to every Carthage ISD campus awarding $253,964.67 to educators to support innovative educational initiatives across the district. With a commitment to enhancing learning experiences for students, the Foundation has awarded funds to a range of exciting projects that promise to enrich curriculum and engage learners in unique ways.

"This day holds a special place in my heart as I witness the priceless excitement gleaming on our students' faces," expressed Cynthia Harkrider, Executive Director of the Carthage ISD Education Foundation. "We are truly blessed to reside in such a remarkably generous community in Carthage, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our donors."

Among this year's funded projects is "The Bulldog Buzz," a groundbreaking course offered at Carthage High School focusing on beekeeping and honey production. This innovative program aims to provide students with hands-on experience in a rapidly growing industry while fostering environmental stewardship and entrepreneurship skills.

Additionally, the grant has enabled the CHS culinary program to introduce a food truck, empowering students to gain practical experience in culinary arts through real-world applications. This initiative not only enhances their culinary skills but also cultivates an entrepreneurial mindset as they manage and operate the food truck.

Also, various hands-on activities have been supported across multiple campuses, enriching instruction and offering students interactive learning opportunities. From science experiments to artistic endeavors, these activities supplement classroom learning and foster creativity and critical thinking among students.

In continuing the focus on early literacy, Carthage Primary School is set to unveil a new addition—a book vending machine. Through this initiative, students will have the opportunity to earn special tokens and "purchase" books of their choice, promoting literacy and instilling a love for reading from an early age.

The Foundation's grants also facilitate educational field trips, allowing students to explore beyond the confines of the classroom and immerse themselves in experiential learning. These excursions broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of various subjects, making learning both memorable and meaningful.

"We are thrilled that the Education Foundation chose to fund these outstanding projects that will undoubtedly enhance the educational experience for our students," said Jarrod Bitter, Carthage ISD Superintendent. "These grants exemplify our commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in our classrooms and we are so grateful to live in a place with such incredible community support for our school system."

Carthage Primary received 11 grants totaling more than $41,000, Libby Elementary received 13 grants totaling more than $42,000, Baker-Koonce Intermediate received 15 grants totaling more than $49,000, Carthage Junior High received eight grants totaling more than $39,000, Carthage High School received 18 grants totaling more than $75,000, and PACE Academy received one grant for $5,000.
