Carthage High School students Clayton Elliott and Logan Sherrod represented Dawg Nation on one of the biggest academic stages in Texas this week, each earning impressive Top-6 finishes at the Texas UIL State Speech & Debate Competition in Austin.
Sherrod competed in Poetry Interpretation and Elliott represented Carthage High School in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, with both students finishing 6th in the state among Texasā top competitors.
Simply qualifying for the UIL State Speech & Debate Competition is an accomplishment reserved for an elite group of students from across Texas. Reaching the state level requires months of preparation, discipline, and success through district and regional competition. To advance and finish among the top six competitors in the entire state is an extraordinary achievement and a reflection of the hard work these students have invested throughout the year.
Speech and debate competition challenges students to think critically, communicate effectively, analyze complex topics, and perform with confidence under pressure. Those skills extend far beyond competition and help prepare students for success in college, careers, and life.
Carthage ISD is incredibly proud of the way Clayton and Logan represented Carthage High School and our community. Their dedication, preparation, and commitment to excellence continue to showcase the talent and opportunities that exist within our schools.
Congratulations to Clayton Elliott and Logan Sherrod on an outstanding accomplishment and for representing Dawg Nation at the highest level.
Dawg Nation is proud of you both.
