In the Carthage ISD School Board meeting on October 19, the board celebrated National Principals Month by honoring our campus principals.  They are Kiley Schumacher of Carthage Primary, Staci Davis of Libby Elementary, Clarinda Collins of Baker Koonce Intermediate, Wade Watson of Carthage Junior High, Justin Smith of Carthage High School, and Mike Baysinger of PACE Academy.

Additionally, the following items were addressed by the board:

  • The board approved the bilingual waiver.

  • The board conducted a public hearing for the School FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) report where Carthage ISD earned a perfect score of 100.

  • The board committed $10 million of its Fund Balance to future projects in order to protect these funds from being used as part of potential state funding formulas.

  • Dr. Robert Jolly with Gallagher Construction presented the facility study to the board.  It revealed areas that will need to be addressed as part of the district 10-Year Master Facility plan.

  • The board heard updates on the District and Campus Improvement Plans.

  • The board heard updates to the CISD Academic Instructional Program and COVID Response Plan.

    • The district will suspend At-Home-Learning as a learning option on November 2.

    • The district has experienced a 1% COVID infection rate among students indicating that it is safe for students to come to school.

    • 60% of At-Home-Learners failed one or more classes indicating that face to face learning is the best way for students to learn and for teachers to close learning gaps.

    • Students who become infected with COVID or quarantine due to close contact exposure will still have access to At-Home-Learning.

  • The board reviewed and approved the following letter to the Texas Education Agency in support of Carthage ISD teachers.
