Throughout June, CISD staff have been working hard to get ready for the upcoming school year. Our teachers have been working hard in staff development learning how to deliver better instruction using technology. Since CISD will be a 1:1 technology district next year, this is a powerful part of student learning next year.
Student athletes and cheerleaders have been attending summer workouts. I would like to applaud our coaches for their hard work to provide our students outstanding workouts to our students with social distancing protocols in place to keep them safe. It has been extremely impressive to watch.
Summer school began this week, and we have over 50 students who started getting a head start on next year's learning by participating in summer school. If you would like for your child to get a jumpstart on next year's learning, we have provided a summer school link (CLICK HERE) so that parents can get their children learning last year's content online. We invite you to take advantage of this great resource.
At the CISD Administration building, our leaders have filled nearly all open positions, and we are preparing a budget that strives to lower the tax rate for taxpayers while also providing our hard working and dedicated staff a 2% raise. The budget will be adopted by the board in August. Additionally, our maintenance, operations, and custodial staff are working diligently to get the buildings and classrooms ready for the first day of school with lots of protocols established for safety.
We are very proud of our maintenance projects taking place in the district. The parking lot at Carthage Primary has been replaced, and the lock system at Libby has been upgraded. We are also procuring sanitizing machines and hand sanitizers to prevent the spread of COVID. Also, our food service staff has opened the summer feeding program at Libby Elementary to ensure that our kids continue to have healthy meals throughout the summer.
Finally, we are still waiting for the commissioner of education to make a decision regarding guidelines about school in the fall. Once these guidelines are released, we will give parents a definitive answer about how school will look next fall. Again, we appreciate your partnership and flexibility during this challenging time, and we look forward to work with students, parents, and the community at large to ensure that all of our students have the best school year ever.
