🏆 DISTRICT 16-4A UIL DEBATE RESULTS 🏆 Today was district, and our Bulldogs showed up in a big way! 🐾🎤 🥇 District Champions & State Qualifiers Brendon Selby & Caroline Lagrone — 1st Place ⭐️ Caroline Lagrone also earned Best Speaker honors! 🥉 State Alternates Camila Íñiguez & Shia Wallace — 3rd Place 👏 Strong Finish Lesly Campos & Madison Creed — 6th Place 💪 Special Shoutout Huge recognition to EB Barnhill and Colton Vickery for being outstanding teammates and stepping up in the final hour when an unexpected spot opened. That readiness, selflessness, and support define what this program is all about. An incredible day of preparation, poise, and performance. Carthage High School to Host FAFSA & Scholarship Night for Seniors and Families Carthage, Texas — Carthage High School will host a FAFSA & Scholarship Night on Thursday, January 22, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the CHS Library/Resource Center (LRC). The event is open to CHS seniors and their parents and is designed to provide hands-on support with college financial aid and scholarship applications. During the event, families will receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a critical step in determining eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Knowledgeable staff and volunteers will be available throughout the evening to answer questions and guide families through the application process. In addition to FAFSA support, teachers and staff will offer guidance on scholarship applications, including tips for writing strong essays and identifying important information that scholarship committees look for in applicants. This support is intended to help students present their best possible applications. The evening will also mark the opening of the CHS General Scholarship Application. This single application is distributed to numerous local organizations that award scholarships to Carthage High School seniors, making it an important opportunity for students seeking financial support for postsecondary education. Carthage High School encourages all seniors and their families to attend this informative and supportive event to take advantage of available resources and maximize scholarship and financial aid opportunities. 🌟🍎 Education Practicum Student Spotlight 🍎🌟 We’re excited to shine the spotlight on Ke’undra Rocquemore, a Carthage High School Education Practicum student who is making a big impact in Ms. Shalondra Rocquemore’s 3rd grade classroom at Libby Elementary! Ke’undra truly stands out as a future educator. She brings a genuine love for learning, a heart for helping others grow, and a natural ability to connect with students from all backgrounds. Her empathy and patience help create a classroom where students feel supported and encouraged every day 💛 Since starting her practicum, Ke’undra has shown incredible growth in confidence and leadership. Making it through multiple rounds in the All-State audition process is an incredible accomplishment. Each fall, thousands of choir students across Texas begin the TMEA audition journey, and only a small percentage advance beyond the Region and Pre-Area rounds to reach this elite level. 🌟 Practicum Student Spotlight 🌟 We are proud to recognize Abigail Finley, an 11th-grade practicum student at Carthage High School, for the outstanding work she is doing in the classroom! Under the mentorship of Lindsey Byrd at Baker-Koonce, Abigail continues to shine as a future educator. She takes direction exceptionally well and carries herself with a calm, welcoming demeanor that students naturally gravitate toward. Since starting in the classroom, Abigail has grown tremendously — quickly learning routines, building relationships, and recognizing which students need extra support during lessons. Her strengths in love, leadership, and relationship-building are evident every day. One of the most rewarding moments has been watching Abigail gain confidence and become more engaged, stepping up to help students and take ownership in the classroom environment. 💬 Advice shared with Abigail: “Continue to remember that building relationships with your students is the key to success in the classroom.” 🖤 One word that describes her: Compassionate 📖 Favorite Quote: “I touch the future. Andrew connects with students by talking with them about things they enjoy and helping them relate learning to real-life situations. 📈 Growth as an educator: Andrew has grown more confident and comfortable with students and is always willing to jump right in and help when needed. ⭐ Strengths & Teaching Qualities: He meets students at their level and speaks to them in a caring, supportive way. ❤️ Favorite Classroom Memory: While working on a calculator problem, a student jokingly blamed Andrew for an incorrect answer—but Andrew had actually taught the concept correctly, showing the trust and rapport he has built with students. 📝 Advice for the future: Stick with school and don’t quit.
