Carthage High School is proud to celebrate an outstanding showing by our UIL Speech and Debate team at the 4A Region 2 Meet, where the team earned an impressive 2nd place overall finish against some of the top programs in the state.

Leading the way was freshman Logan Sherrod, who captured 1st place in Poetry Interpretation and is advancing to the UIL State Meet. Logan delivered a remarkable performance, standing out as both the only freshman and the only female finalist in her round. Her composure and talent on a big stage continue to set her apart.

Senior Clayton Elliott also punched his ticket to state, earning 2nd place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Clayton’s performance reflects years of dedication and preparation, and he will represent Carthage at the UIL State Meet as he closes out his high school career.

Senior Brenden Selby added to the team’s success with a 5th place finish in Persuasive Speaking, earning the distinction of UIL State Alternate. Brenden has had an exceptional year, previously qualifying for the UIL State Meet in CX Debate and earning a debate scholarship to Tyler Junior College. His consistency and commitment across multiple events highlight the strength of Carthage’s program.

These accomplishments are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of both our students and coaching staff. Carthage ISD extends its appreciation to Ms. Julie Develin, Abby Wilkerson, and Julissa DeJulian for their leadership, mentorship, and commitment to excellence in UIL Academics.

Carthage ISD is proud of these students for representing our district with confidence, preparation, and integrity. We look forward to cheering on Logan Sherrod and Clayton Elliott as they compete at the UIL State Meet.
