Carthage ISD proudly recognizes Mr. Jim Jones, who served as Carthage Director of Bands from 1999 to 2005, on his induction into the National Association of Military Marching Bands (NAMMB) Hall of Fame.
Mr. Jones was honored on Wednesday, October 29, during the UIL/NAMMB State Marching Contest held at Baylor University, where the Carthage Band delivered an excellent performance ā a fitting moment to celebrate one of its former directors and his lifelong contributions to music education.
A native of Gilmer, Texas, Jim Jones began his musical journey in sixth grade and went on to study at Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin State University, where he helped reinstate the Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity and served as its charter president. Over his 36-year teaching career, he led successful programs in Center, Pittsburg, Cleveland, and Carthage, earning numerous UIL Sweepstakes Awards, regional and state honors, and recognition for excellence in music education.
Beyond the podium, Mr. Jones served as TMEA Region 10 Band Chairman, UIL State Advisory Team member, NAMMB President and Executive Secretary, and ATSSB State Representative, helping advance opportunities for students and band programs across Texas. His honors include induction into the SFA Band Director Hall of Fame, Carthage Band Director Hall of Fame, and Phi Beta Mu Hall of Fame, along with the UIL Sponsor Excellence Award and SFAās Outstanding Bandsman Award.
Mr. Jones expressed deep gratitude to his mentors, family, and the NAMMB organization, saying he is āhonored and humbled to be joining the ranks of so many great music educators.ā
