Carthage High School Students inducted into collegiate honor society

Fourteen current Carthage High School students were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Wednesday evening at Panola College, an achievement that stands out not only for its prestige, but because each honoree is still enrolled in high school while taking college coursework through Carthage ISD’s dual credit partnership with Panola College. Panola’s dual credit program allows eligible high school students to earn both high school and college credit at the same time, giving students an early start on college-level achievement.

Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society for two-year colleges and recognizes students for exceptional academic accomplishment. At Panola College, students must complete at least 12 transferable college hours and earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be eligible for invitation into the college’s Pi Beta chapter. Phi Theta Kappa membership is extended to top-performing community college students and offers members access to scholarships, leadership development, service opportunities, and transfer resources.

For Carthage High School students to meet that standard while still completing their high school coursework speaks volumes about their discipline, work ethic, and commitment to academic excellence. Their induction reflects both their individual achievement and the strength of the opportunity available through the district’s ongoing partnership with Panola College.

ā€œThese students are doing something very special and taking advantage of the great opportunities available to them through our partnership with Panola College,ā€ said Carthage ISD Superintendent Jarrod Bitter. ā€œBeing inducted into Phi Theta Kappa as high school students says a great deal about their character, their discipline and work ethic, and their commitment to academics. We are extremely proud of them.ā€
