Adulting 101 auto maintenance

Carthage High School seniors got first class experience of the real world at the annual “Adulting 101” class, aimed at equipping them with practical skills for life after graduation.

“I think our sessions this year were outstanding!” said Shannon Royce, Carthage high school counselor. “Our seniors learned a variety of skills from several members of our community.”

Covering essential topics like mental health and wellness, justice, law enforcement, car maintenance, civic engagement, leadership, job success and money management, the event provided seniors with valuable insights into adult responsibilities.

A highlight of the event was a reality finance simulation facilitated by East Texas Professional Credit Union, where each student was assigned a career and monthly budget. This hands-on experience allowed seniors to navigate real-life financial scenarios, preparing them for managing their finances independently. The event also fostered direct interaction between seniors and community leaders through small group sessions, encouraging engagement and open dialogue.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Royce expressed gratitude to the community members who volunteered their time and expertise.

“We are blessed to live in an area with so many wonderful leaders and community volunteers that enjoy sharing their expertise with our students,” Royce said.
