7TH GRADE MATH DEPARTMENT

Welcome to an exciting year of seventh grade math at Carthage Junior High!  We are delighted to have your child in our classes.

We have set high expectations for our classrooms this year.  Our goal is to receive the best from every student and from ourselves within a positive and comfortable learning environment.  Your child’s education and well being is important to both of us.  Working together as a team gives your child the best opportunity to excel.

We want to mention our discipline plan and homework policy.  First, we expect all children to behave and follow school and classroom rules.  If a rule is not followed, a student will receive a conduct slip on the first offense.  On the second, a student will receive another conduct slip.   On a third offense, the student is referred to the assistant principal.  We want our classrooms to be one of respect, safety, and order.  Please encourage your child to come to math class every day, prepared and ready to learn.

We believe that homework is a powerful tool for learning and a necessary part of any student’s successful mastery of skills and knowledge.  You can expect your child to have math homework on Monday through Thursday nights.  However, we always start homework in class, and some students will finish assignments.

Homework is due the following day when students enter class.  We expect work to be completed on time.  We do not accept late work!  If a student fails to turn in an assignment, it is a zero.  Students are required to show all work to receive credit.  Please understand that an answer is only worth something if the work is there to prove it.  We do offer after-school homework help, Monday through Thursday, until 4:00.  It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to pick students up at 4:00.  Also, we have a helpful website that can be accessed from home that is a great homework helper.  The web site is www.tx.msmath2.com.

We supply students with a homework agenda sheet every Monday.  This sheet has every assignment listed for the week.  Please help your child do well on homework assignments by setting aside a study time each night to complete the homework.   Strongly encourage him or her to keep up with these assignments.  You may see the weekly agenda sheet on the Carthage Junior High web page.

Students can correct all homework and tests grades up to a 70.  Please encourage your child to make corrections.  It can prevent failures.

It is our goal to keep close contact with you this year.  We welcome your calls and emails.  Anytime you have something you would like to discuss, please call the school office at 903-693-2751 or send an email at kgriffith@carthageisd.org or phagan@carthageisd.org.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to teach your child.  We are looking forward to a successful year.

Sincerely,

Kim Griffith and Petra Hagan
