  Carthage Primary School , Pre-K -1

At the Opera—Literature in Song ($500.00)

Props! Sets! Costumes!  A lively performance by the Shreveport Opera Express teaches Carthage Primary students about this important art form as well as uniquely presenting an effective lesson on the hazards of smoking.

          Do They Really Paint Faces? ($1,619.00)

Near Thanksgiving, Alabama-Coushatta tribe members perform dances, demonstrate basket weaving, and answer lots of questions as the culmination of a 2-week study on Native American culture.

           Reading Out of the Box ($1,601.04)

This grant provides teachers with effective hands-on manipulative activities for small group and individualized instruction to promote beginning reading skills.

          Take Control of Out-of-Control Students ($3,500.00)

Because training on behavior problems was targeted by Carthage Primary Staff as a major need, a seminar with a behavior expert from the Appelbaum Training Institute will provide PK-6 teachers with effective strategies.

Libby Elementary, grades 2-3

          Soaring to be a Scientist at Sci-Port! ($4,056.00)

Well-planned trips to Sci-Port Discovery Center in Shreveport provide exciting hands-on activities and experiences that directly relate to the science TEKS for all Libby students.

          Stacking at the Speed of Light! ($308.00)

Manipulating a classroom set of Speed-Stacks (specially designed plastic cups) stimulates the development of bilateral proficiency, enhancing students’ abilities to think creatively and analytically.

          Takeout Science:  Portable Science Lab Kits ($1,330.50)

Portable, well-equipped science laboratory kits include both creative, hands-on activity ideas and supplies for all third grade teachers to use.

          Tell a Terrific Tale ($1,370.00)

Professional storytellers spark student interest in different genres of literature.  Each Libby student (400) is given a book, and 160 new books will be bought for the LRC due to need from the high volume of check-outs.

Baker Koonce, grades 4-5-6

          Author Visit:  John Erickson and Hank the Cowdog ($3,000.00)

John Erickson, nationally-known author of the popular Hank the Cowdog series, presents three entertaining programs that promote student reading in grades 3 – 6.

          Sci-Port or Bust! ($1,861.00)

An investigative trip to Sci-Port Discovery Center in Shreveport enhances fifth grade science and social studies lessons and fosters enthusiasm in these areas.

          Hands-On Science – Inquiring Minds ($4,304.00)

Professionally-designed kits provide excellent opportunities for hands-on science and science inquiry activities for all fifth graders.

 

 

Carthage Junior High School , grades 7-8

          The Ballet Folklorico Mexicano- “Ollimpazqui” ($2,500.00)

The Ballet Folklorico’s exciting performance develops seventh and eighth grade students’ appreciation of another culture.  Prior to the program, teachers prepare students to understand and enjoy its various aspects.

 

Carthage High School, grades 9-10-11-12

Living Laboratory ($2,722.00)

This grant begins the restoration and further development of an outdoor learning laboratory behind Carthage High School for all students     K-12 to use.

Troupe d’Jour ($889.89)

Troupe D’Jour performs scenes from Shakespearean, American, and Greek drama and literature specific to Carthage High School grade levels and also guides students through an interactive workshop.  Each grade level will experience a different presentation.

CISD Scholars Academy ($3,856.00)

A summer tutorial program offers Carthage High School students intense preparation for college entrance exams (ACT and SAT) and the PSAT.

Algebra Camp ($1,350.00)

A one-week, 20-hour summer course utilizes effective concrete activities to study Algebra 1 concepts in small groups.

African American Cultural Studies ($1,200.00)

This grant funds two guest speakers and a tour of the Smithsonian African American Museum of Dallas, the only museum of its kind in the Southwestern United States .

One-to-One Networked Computer Instruction ($4,953.00)

Innovative computer software enables monitoring of all student workstations from one teaching station as well as personalized instruction.  This grant impacts over 400 students.

Techno English ($2,272.00)

A 3M Multimedia Projector enables all Carthage High School English classes to create, present, edit, and discuss technology-based presentations effectively and efficiently.

Stand Alone Productions ($975.00)

New computer software enables Carthage High School students to create a program of video, still pictures, and music that does not require any other software to view the production.  Instructional procedures promote community involvement.  

Digital Video Productions ($4,890.00)

This new equipment moves CHS-TV into the brand new era of digital media, archived on digital video disc (DVD).  CHS-TV productions benefit all Carthage ISD campuses as well as the community.

Technology Upgrade for Student Publications, Theatre, and Arts ($4,996.00)

This grant upgrades needed technology in the Carthage High School yearbook-newspaper lab and networks the lab with other Carthage ISD technology—enabling the theatre department to create graphic art applications and art students to pursue a computer graphics component in their art studies.
